You dotn ahve to have Gutenprint..its there by default when you install OS X..part of the system..invisible to the eyes, but present and most of the time, taking charge without your notie of the printer when you *think* you install it. Until you provide this last window..i cant help, so cant anyone else here also.

Brad, how can you conclude its a Apple issue if you dont know if the OP have install the correct printer driver?

Because as I stated above when I Googled the issue, many others are having the same problem with the .7 update, even on newer printers like the 2880. Somehow the update broke communication with many printers. Epson didn't change anything, Apple did. So if you want to hold Epson responsible, then just be patient and wait for a driver update...if one comes at all for older printers. Otherwise research the problem with Apple, and you may find an answer.

Since Apple recommends doing a backup before updating, just resore that backup or use Time Machine. If you don't have a backup, then niether Apple nor Epson is at fault, and guess who is.

For now im holding the user responsible ; )

Nor Apple or Epson force him not to press the print button and see whats appening! Nothing related to a update or a tech problem for now.. I have 4 Mac station, all running 10.5.7, a 1400, 3800, 2400, and a 7880..they ALL work fine WHEN I PRESS THE PRINT BUTTON ; )

I see, I wasn't aware you had the same update without issues (I missed that part, sorry). So I wonder now if all the users with issues have something else on their systems that may be conflicting (or USB comm is different on printers older than the 2400). Still I think the best place to start is with Apple tech support.

If there are other USB devices connected, try unplugging those (including the mouse and navigate with the keyboard) to check for USB conflicts.

Also Epson has free tech support at 562-276-1300. I've used it, techs in California answer, but I had limited success there (as stated above).

Or maybe Epson called Apple and said, "We want to sell more printers, so break comm. with anything older than the 2400 with a new update." (joking...I'm NOT a conspiracy theorist)

As the OP stated above, he only wants to hear from people who have it working with the 2200. I've tried to recommend every troubleshooting step I can think of (that's also my job, but with PC's) with no response, so I'm out.

"Patrick, the screen shots are of the ones I get in Photoshop. I don't have Gutenprint."

Wow. Can you answer one simple question that Patrick and I have been asking:

What happens when you click on the "Print..." button?

I run Mac OS X v10.5.7. I don't have an Epson 2200, but I use the Epson R2400. Driver dialogs are the same between them, however, modulo features of the 2200 vs R2400. Epson supports both printers on Mac OS X v10.5.7.

Print driver dialogs vary depending upon which application you are using and what options you've chosen. Here's a representative sample:

Print driver dialog in Safari 4, collapsed:

Print driver dialog in Safari 4, expanded:

Print With Preview and Page Setup dialog in Photoshop CS2, printer selection menu open:

Page Setup in Photoshop CS2 with Epson R2400 chosen:

Print dialog after clicking Print button in Photoshop, collapsed:

Print dialog, expanded, showing choosing the Print Settings panel:

Print dialog, expanded, showing choosing media type from drop down menu:

I've had zero problems printing from Photoshop CS2 or Lightroom 2.4 on Mac OS X 10.5.7.

All my clients who have called with printing problems had no computer problems, they simply needed to be taught how to use the print dialogs. I'm not certain I understand this as they seem perfectly clear to use for me.

Godfrey,

your windows are different. I am printing through CS4 which should be similar, but is not. I do not have media type choices or dpi choice settings for the printer. I had all of these when I was using OS9. They are not here. I have checked every drop down menu, clicked on every arrow. My windows are different then the windows you posted.

I finally found everything. What an ordeal. It is not as clear as the printer driver in OS9. I found everything finally, paper settings, dpi settings, etc.. Thank you all for your help!
Patrick, I did click on that arrow. CS4 is very different from CS2, 3, etc..
I just hope I can find them again.
I guess having installed and reinstalled the driver, somewhere along the line line, it finally installed correctly. These options were not here before.
Thanks all again!

all is there for you to choose; media type, speed, ink, and one menu back call color management you should TURN OFF color management.

Dont forget to select FIRST your ICC profile for your paper type IN PHOTOSHOP..this is where you tell your printer how to print.

Keith,

I disagree that CS2 is that different from CS4. I work with both .. there are minor style differences but the printer dialogs (Page Setup... and Print...) are pretty much the same ... on Mac OS X.

Comparing to Mac OS 9: yes, the entire print architecture and all dialogs related to it are quite different. I haven't run Mac OS 9 since 2001.

Thanks Godfrey. I can't tell how many times I have tried finding the options I need. Honestly, they were not there the countless times I deleted and reinstalled the driver until yesterday morning when I did all again. Maybe it was the karma of photo.net......
Thanks for your help.

Just so we're clear Patrick, I did not have these options before. And I did press that little arrow the many times after I uninstalled and installed the printer driver.
Thanks for your help.
