eleven
Hi. Thank you in advance. I just purchased a Heliopan Zeiss Softar I The filter itself sais " Carl Zeiss Germany S62 Softar I " There is a note on the back of the casing that sais. """" Zeiss Softar lenses are made of plastic and require care in using, handling and cleaning """" Are Softar filters supposed to be plastic ? I thought I was purchasing glass? This filter was quite expensive and I will need to know a difinitive answer on this before I take action. An educated response is appreciated. colin carron
Have a look at www.gassers.com 'suggestions for the creative use of filters'. Their FAQ #9 is about Softars, what they are made of and how they work.
eleven
The building material of the Softar is a so called acrylic glass, an organic plastic material, not conventional glass SiO2. This is due to the Softar production in a molding process. Consequence for the user: be carefull with agressive chemicals and clean it in a gentle way.
