ryan_smith9
Does anyone know of a good teleconverter (if one exists) that will work on the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 D? I would prefer a Nikon brand but if there is another brand out there that will provide just as good quality, I would obviously be interested in that as well. I want it to be able to autofocus. Thanks for your help
rob_malkin
According to Nikon UK the 85mm f1.8 can not be used with any of its TC's.

According to other sites you can use the TC-201, and TC-14A (with "Usable, but vignetting or other image deterioration may occur ")

Both are Manual Focus ony.
ramon_v__california_
you can look into the Kenko 1.4x Pro300DG teleconverter.
alex_lofquist
The Kenko is probably the only TC that will fit and AF with the 85mm f/1.8 Nikkor. Even then I doubt that you would be happy with the results with it. Assuming that you want AF and a focal length of about 120mm, saving up for either the 105DC or 135DC Nikkors (or possibly the 105mm MicroNikkor) would seem to be your best solution.
ilkka_nissila
TC-14A works with the 85/1.8 but when I tried the combination I felt it was soft. I would just get a 105/2.5 or 135/2.8 manual focus which are much better.
paul_garland
I have tried several different teleconverters, but don't think much of any of them. The optical clarity goes down almost enough to make a digital enlargment just about equivalent.

If possible just buy yourself a good telephoto lens.
ryan_smith9
Thanks all, it sounds like the best option is to just save up and buy a longer lens.
