mirotar 500mm

<p>Hello<br>

I have a mirotar 500mm f/8 and use it with an adapter on a Canon 40D. I use to take shots of the moon. My current grip ballhead doesn't hold the position when I aim it at the moon. As soon as I let go of the grip the position of the head changes slightly but enough to require further adjustment. Can anyone recommend a tripod head for my purposes. Thanks.</p>

<p>The Bogen 410 (supports 11lbs) or 405 (supports 16lbs and I have heard of people putting up to 20lbs on it) gear heads do not have the issue. There is no change in camera position when you let go. </p>

<p>It helped my pick my current tripod/head setup, and I've been very satisfied with it (Gitzo 2541L + Arca Swiss Z1 ballhead. Solid as a rock, no play whatsoever and very well adjustable.)</p>

<p>thank you for the advice Steven and B.J. Excellent article - and yes I feel like the photographer decribed in the article - buying an inexpensive head just doesn't make sense if it can't do the job.</p>
