Sanford
I see that Delta now sells the M6 TTL chrome for $1362.00 new grey market!
william_m._carson
As I calculate, if the Dealer has a gross margin of 33% discount from the List Price, he will just about break even on a sale at $1,362.00 ---- that is one tough way to make a living! b_n_f
I received a price reduction flyer from Leica bei Meister yesterday for a 400 discount on the R8 and/or M6 with a selection of lenses. The offer is a Leica program and lasts until 31-10-02. FYI
john_collier2
The dealer cost of grey market cameras is much less than through regular distribution channels. There is no warranty, parts, repair staff, sales rep, advertising, etc that the regular distributor has to provide. The profit margin on a new, officially distributed camera through a typical low volume retailer is about 10%. Now you know why most places do not stock many high end, slow moving cameras. How do I know? I asked. They make about a 100% on filters, straps, bags and other such accessories but not on high end cameras.
andrew_schank
Nobody has made good money on any better 35mm cameras in decades. Even 20 years ago, we made $10.00 to $30.00 on Canon, Minolta, Nikon , Olympus and Pentax SLR's,(that sold for $200 to $400) and that included the discount you get from paying your bill promptly with the suppliers. People thought we must have paid $200 for a camera we sold for $400, but that was not the case I can assure you, as I used to process the invoices. patricks
I thought the dealer profit margin on Leicas were 10-12% (compare to other "luxury goods", e.g. Rolex which gives the dealer a 50% profit margin, however, if the give discounts, they will lose their right to sell the products)
charles barcellona www.bl
The USA distribution for Leica camera products is 33.33% deducted from list price, as published by Leica's USA distribution. There is also some anticipation discout, probably 1.5 percent. There may be some co-op ad money there as well but its probably less than 2 percent, and only appicable to offset the cost of certain kinds of ads (not all ads qualify)
