richard_martin10
My buddy dropped his 20D and Sigma 18-125 lens a month or so ago and he asked me to try his Sigma 18-125 on my 40D as it didn't seem to be working right on his camera. This is a lens that I always liked but shyed away from because of the so-so ratings. I took a few pics in my backyard Sunday including the attached one and was quite surprised at the image. Seems like a pretty nice result from some quick snaps.....anyone who owns this lens or has had experience with it have any input?

kari v
Why f20? How about samples wide open and at f8?
Then again, if the lens works for you who cares what ratings say.
richard_martin10
F20 was not used intentionally, as I said the pic came from a group of quick shots just to test the fuctionality of the lens which was dropped.
davidhay
I had this lens. It was sharp at the 18mm setting, although with with quite obvious vignetting and it was reasonable in the mid range. However at 125mm the whole right side of the photos were softer at or near full aperture, probably due to decentering.
Like all Sigma lenses, if you get a good one and they are as good as any other lenses, and better value than most, but the quality control is more variable. (I have Sigma 10-20 which is fine).
