D90 price drop

Recommended Posts

Since the new d5000 has a lot of the same features as the D90, and is selling for less, do you think that the price will soon start falling. Here in Canada the D90 is retailing for $1399 and has been there since it first came out around 7 or 8 months ago. At what point does Nikon historicaly speaking drop the price of there camera's?

This is all speculation but I'd guess no. If anything, pricing the D5000 over $700 shows Nikon's not afraid of the current prices. Based on the D5000 lacking some features that more advanced users want (second wheel, some of the buttons, customizability and very deep menu options, remote flash command, and of course AF motor) while being nearly the same size, I doubt more advanced users will shy away from paying an extra $170 for a D90. If anything the price gap is smaller than I would expect.

I don't know. I'm trying to decide between these two cameras and the D90 seems to me to have at least a couple of hundred bucks worth of extra bang: much higher res. screen, lens motor, 2nd command dial, easier access to WB. And the d5000 isn't any smaller at all.

That's what I keep saying!

If you made three boxes, one the smallest that a D90 can fit in, one for a D60 and one for a D5000, the D5000's box would be the largest by volume. It would be almost 1/3 larger than the D60's.

But if you like a flippy screen and don't have non-AFS lenses the D5000 is the camera for you.

Robert, where in Canada are you located? In my area, Vancouver, the D90 retails for around CAD$1050. For instance, Photo Expert has it for $1049: http://photoexpert.com/spec_sheet.html?catalog[product_guids][0]=07acc8f5-65ea-450a-adcf-cc4f01699405

Nikon is set to add another £80 to the price of its flagship consumer digital SLR, the D90, blaming exchange rate fluctuations.

From next month the D90 will cost £849.99, body only.

The 10% rise means that the price of the 12.3MP DX-format DSLR has risen by around £150 since its debut in September last year. That equates to an overall increase of 21%.

A Nikon spokeswoman said: 'As a result of volatile exchange rate conditions the RRP of the D90 will be increased from 1 May 2009.'

She pointed out that the D90 escaped the last round of price rises in March.
