steve_hotchkiss
The plastic cover on the bottom of a new M7. Should it be left there or should it be removed? Can it be removed? I feel like I am tearing one of those tags off a mattress. You know, like I am breaking a law or something. Just looking for advice I guess
peter_silvia
I would leave it on, as it provides a protective coating for the base plate. Also will enhance resale value.
alain_besancon
I agree with Peter, and it's what I did with my M6 TTL; this plastic cover is resistant and don't disturb. Alain
ray .
I'd leave it on, for sure, just to protect the bottom plate, which is what it's for. Maybe take it off in a couple years when it looks like it wants to come off.....Thanks, this question has prompted me to ask another question I will post. john_corb
um, i've had 3 with it on, i rip 'em off, to paraphrase sir cathcart, you can't put plastic between yourself and life but some feel it enhances resale value to leave the plastic on there if you don't mind the look/feel leave it on, otherwise rip it off! jay bee
Funny this question should be asked today. I've had my M6 TTL since December and just took the plastic off yesterday. Also had to get the CE logo out as well as it is a more reslient adhesive decal but once I removed them I liked the feel more than with it. Its a minor difference but one nonetheless... albert knapp md
Steve: Leave it on as it helps to protect the baseplate. Furthermore, you should consider buying a leather Leica half case that will protect the rest of your camera. The best are made by Luigi Crescenzi in Italy (www.leicatime.com)
hadji_singh
Half case <i>and</i> plastic! Now that's being cautious!<p> I'm going to go against the grain and say rip the plastic off! Go out and use your camera -- some minor nicks aren't going to hurt it (or you). If you're too preoccupied with keeping your camera in "minty" or "mint" condition then I think it's really going to hamper it's function <i>as a camera</i>.<p> But then again, if you're from the "camera as neck jewelry" crowd, then by all means ignore what I have to say. You'd probably be horrified at how beat up my M4-P is.
