chris_tennyson
The camera is an M6 classic in good condition as far as wear is concerend.. probably in the excellent range.. one problem.. the hotshoe and PC are both out....so... obviously, not excellent... but i dont really care.. i dont plan on using flash.. i rarely ever do, and if i need flash, i will be using my Canon EOS system anyways... The Lens is a 35 summicron-M f2 made in Canada.. excellent range.. has some dust in it, but nothing that will effect picture quality. I can get the set up with caps and boxes and lens hood and what not for $1600 no tax. If i ever want to get the flash repaird, it will be $350.. so thats $1950.. i have looked at KEH, Kurland, Tamarkin, and the rest, and they seem to be priced around $2200 or more for the same setup used..... what are your thoughts... This will be my first Leica.. anything i need to be aware of? i have been looking at websites and forums here and so forth and learning about it... My boss used to shoot leica, his pride and joy was the Noctilux.. though he just sold the entire system.. He said the camera seemed to be fine other than flash problem, and it looks that way to me... anyways... talk to me people!
chris_tennyson
almost forgot.. I will be shooting mostly B/W film.. I have a lot of experience with printing B/W, fibre base.. the whole ordeal.. what films work well with it from your experiences.. I use ilford XP2 with my Contax Y2 rating the film at 100 instead off 400. so, two stop over exposure.. looks kinda nuts on one hour machine prints.. but in the dark room the tonal range is amazing, and the grain nonexistant... but, for the leica, im thinking that maybe Tmax 100 and 400 will be best... what do you all think.. am i better off with Tri X? I like the new Fuji Acros, but I wish they would have made it a true 100 speed instead of the 50 it seems to be... i dont know what they were thinking rating it at 100... its certainly not... so, thats a little slow for the street photography and low light stuff i shoot... and the grain is comparable to Tmax 100 anyways, so i might as well get the extra stop out of it... anyways, this is completely subjective obviously, but what works well for guys? christopher.
Go for it. For that price you can always sell it and get your money back. Enjoy.
chris_tennyson
Thanx.. that was my thought as well... I see no reason to need to sell it though! I have always wanted a Leica.. just cant afford one.. cant afford the $2200 now... but i can get the camera now, and still do payments... so it works! My main subject matter as far as personal work is concerened, instead of client based, is candids, and urban landscapes/street scenes, so the M6 is THE camera for the job in my opinion.. I have used all kinds of cameras, and so far, my T2 is my favorite, and the M6 takes it a few steps further... I can't wait!!!!
doug_lee__cinnaminson__nj
I agree with Chris. Go for it. In my limited experience KEH prices are high. I don't think you are getting the deal of the century, but I also don't think you are over paying. Don't know what the lense goes for, but a fully functioning M6 Classic at my local dealer goes for $1,095. Good luck and enjoy!
