deaner66
Is there a proper way to install a M42 adapter to my K10D? I bought an authentic Asahi adapter, but it was used, and had no instructions. Is there a proper way to install and remove this adapter? Is there a web site that demonstrates this?

jpo3136b
I find that method cumbersome. Also, for some reason, the M42 feels snug on the newer cameras. The easiest way is to screw it onto the base of a lens, bayonet it onto the camera; unscrew the lens and changeover.
deaner66
That does sound easier.
markus maurer
I do it like John, first mount the adapter on the lens and then both on the body. To remove the adapter from the body, unscrew the lens first and then use a finger nail for the adapter removal.
johnw436
I pulled the stupid little lock spring off. Useless little bugger! I need to adapt the lens, not the camera. I want the adapter to convert the lens to bayonet mount, not change the camera body to M42. One tiny speck of BLUE (removable) locktite on the threads and the adapter is part of the lens. I'm using an ebay knockoff, so for about $15 each, each of my M42 lenses are now bayonet mount because they each have their own adapter.

****You must get the adapter without a flange. The flange versions will not allow focus at infinity. I found that out the hard way, but no worries. Fifteen bucks for the right one versus ten for one with the flange. ;)
markus maurer
How many M42 lenses and original Pentax adapters do you own and use John? With my Takumar collection your proposal would become quite expensive and unflexible. Changing the original adapter is not that hard to justify your way of doing imho?
johnw436
I only have a handful, Markus. I can see your point if you multiply $15 by 50 lenses.
