Show Us Your Mallards

<p>Flipping through my collection of bird photos, I realized that almost everyone has a picture of a Mallard. Though common, their coloring is spectacular. Mine are taken with a K20D and DA*300 with no post color adjustments.</p>

<p>I'm showing this one because of that beautiful bit of violet that is usually hidden.<br>

<p>I took these about a year ago with the 70-300 Tamron I had just purchased. I wish the action shot was a little sharper.<br />Dave, I really like your shot, the background tones are very nice.<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3206/2659640395_4973833db6_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="685" /><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3563/3346081910_a17cee608c_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="639" /><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3338/3346239450_51677922db_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="702" /></p>

<p>From last weekend, some D.A., courtesy of DA 55-300. Shots weren't great as light was low and I was impatient but not so bad at web res.</p>

<p>Actually Andrew it's a domestic Crested Duck. From Wikipedia: The domestic <strong>Crested Duck</strong> is a <a title="Duck" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck" title="Duck">duck</a> breed descended from the <a title="Mallard" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallard" title="Mallard">Mallard</a> . It has its appearance because it is <a title="Heterozygous" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterozygous" title="Heterozygous" >heterozygous</a> for a genetic <a title="Mutation" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutation" title="Mutation">mutation</a> causing a deformity of the skull. Whatever that means!</p>
