bryce_covey1
I have a Canon 30D and I have been getting rampant ERR 99 messages, about every other picture now (impossible to take do photography like this.) I can correct it by turning the camera on and off and taking a picture. I don't have to take the battery out to get it to reset. I have only had to take the battery out a few times to get it to work.

I shoot with Canon lenses only: 50mm 1.4, 24-70 2.8, 17-85 4.0-5.6. The ERR 99 happens with all of them.
I also shoot with two of them on my 5D Mark II and they work great on that body.

I have cleaned the contacts of the lenses and the body, but this has yielded no results.

Has anyone had this situation before and been able to correct it? Or does anyone know what to do other than send it to Canon?

I am hesitant to send it to Canon for I don't want to pay them to tell me it is simply broken. Has anyone had success with sending it to Canon and not having any more atrocious ERR 99 messages?

Oh 30d, why can't you behave?

john_macpherson
This is common - mine was terminal (1DMk2n) and needed new internal gubbins. If you've tried all the regular fixes - cleaning contacts etc and no remedy then send it off and get it fixed by Canon. You wont pay them to tell you its broken - you'll pay them to make it work.
www.philwinterphotography.
Several years ago, my 10D exhibited the same ERR 99, and nothing I could do would fix it. It went to Canon and got a new shutter assembly under warranty. No problems since.

peten
My 350d required a new main circuit board. Cost was more than camera was worth so it went on ebay.
