jack_grieve
Hello all. I just came across two vintage original Leitz Leica cases. One has mounts to hold 3 M lenses and other little bits and pieces and the other seems to be just for a camera? I am no Leica person (MF)- so have no idea about these cases. I have tried searching here and there but can't seem to find any info. Any help identifying the model names- or exactly what equiptment these case are for- will be much appreciated...

thanks in advance.

robert_hooper1
Nice cases, Jack. I have personally seen the first one, but never the second. I tried to look them up in my various Hove Guides but they just don't have the necessary photos to identify the cases definitively. I tried Jack's link but can't seem to find the cases you illustrate.

You might try browsing Kevin Camera. At the bottom of the site select "Leica Misc" > "Album, Box Case". Look around there. He has some similar cases which are genericly described as "Universal Carrying Case". Good luck finding specific information. Someone here will probably come up with the answer.

This is a very helpful group, as I can attest to. ;-)

jack_grieve
Thanks Robert,

any idea what era these may date from? I am guessing the 60's.

I tried searching the net but wasn't able to find anything like these two.
robert_hooper1
No, I believe these cases are of around 1955 to 1960 vintage. I don't remember seeing Leica cases being offered with the metal lens mounts in the 1960's, but that was a long time ago, and I certainly could be wrong.

These case were sold to the more well-healed Leica enthusiast, from my perspective at the time.

My camera bag was an olive drab, canvas US Army surplus shoulder bag in those days. Something like a poor man's Billingham. Actually it worked quite well.
jack_grieve
Thanks as well Frank- I missed your post there. "Ebyoo, Etneu, Ekooz, Emtoo, ETGUS" gotta love the Leica product names/codes... sounds like some kinda alien language. "Where is my Viooo?", "It's in your Etgus, you iiidiot!"

anyone got any idea what goes in these cases? will they fit a range of M cameras- or are they quite specific?
robert_hooper1
The second case looks to be dedicated to the M system, judging from what I can see of the lens lug configuration. The narrow vertical slot is likely for removable lens ocular (spectacles) storage. The tall cylinder is likely for a 135mm lens.

The first case is obviously configured for specific equipment, accessories, but I just don't know what.

Some of the case codes Frank lists are definitely not either of your cases. The ETGUS and ETNEU both look like a small suit cases or hinged brief cases.
jack_grieve
I couldn't find any more information anywhere- and seeing as I don't have any gear to go in these cases... I listed them both on ebay australia. They are up now. So far not much interest in them- few bids. Anyone have an idea what these cases might be worth?
