I have a zeiss ikon 523/2 with a Novar-Anastigmat, prontor-sv.I have what I beleive is fungi in the lens. I have took the back glass out and it cleaned up easily- there is no etching on it. But the inside of the outside lens has fungi , and the middle lens has fungi also. How do I take the front lens off, and will doing that let me clean the middle lens ? Is this something a amatuer should be doing. Thanks -tom

Hi Tom,
for a Zeiss Ikon 520/2, maybe some similar camera like yours, also with the Novar Anastigmat, I was able to unmount and clean the front and the inner lense from the front side (Anistigmat means that it is a 3 lense system). I wasn't able to unmount the lense on the backside.

I found some very useful tips here:
http://www.davidrichert.com/camera_rebuilds.htm

To unmount the front lense I removed the small pin (nib) on the front lense, after moving it to infinity setting until it can't go further - when the pin is out and you turn the lense wheel further, you can unscrew the front lense and go for cleaning it. The shutter mechanics are kept untouched. In a repair shop they told me that they justify the cameras also after repairing, because the distance setting can be wrong after the repair - I guess this is different from model to model, but couldn't check it on my camera until today. So there may be some risk, but I think it is able to handle and the mechanics are very robust.

Here you can find a model overview with building dates and serial numbers:
http://www.wctatel.com/web/crye/z-i120.htm

Hello Matthias,
Thank you for the info. I am sure the links you sent me are going to help. After veiwing the link, I don't think the job will be as hard as I previously thought. And with what you told me, it should go ok.Thanks again for the help, maybe this weekend I can "tear into it".
