jeff_bubis
I just bought an LX-3 and am looking for a good case for it. Currently, I'm considering the DMW-CLX3. Here's the question - like everything else related to the LX-3 these days, the prices are through the roof ($100-$150). My major concern about springing for this case is that it will be useless if I decide to add a filter (correct me if I'm wrong) as you can't close it with the filter adapter and filter on it... I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this, using the filter adapter or wide angle adapter in general (i.e. should I just leave it as it is and use my DSLR when I feel that those are necessary), and if there might be a better case for accommodating the camera. The reason i bought it in the first place was for when I wanted to travel light... Perhaps the real answer is that I just need to break myself of the habit of carrying around a lot of gear. I appreciate your thoughts.

j
bill_tuthill
Why do Adwords highlight silly words like DSLR and camera, but not DMW-CLX3? I actually had to google. I thought my IQ was well below 100, but the Web is getting too stupid even for me.
Anyway, there are zillions of used leather cases on the market that fit the LX-3, so I think you'd be wasting money on the CLX3. Check out the B&H kits, many of which include a case for virtually no money.
jcuknz
An alternative that I have used except when I found my current case in the special discount tray at a photo shop, was to check out discount stores. This has the advantage that they don't look too much like a camera case from a security point of view.
seismiccwave
The LX3 is very similar in size to the LX2 and the Leica D-Lux 3 and D-Lux 4. As such the size is fairly universal and you can find a host of generic cases to fit said camera. I personally use a BIG sunglasses case for my D-Lux 3 and I don't see any reason why it won't fit the LX3. Go down to Best Buy or Walmart and look at some generic cases. I am sure you will find one for $10.

joshroot
Bill, part of the issue is that the word "panasonic" hasn't appeared in the thread yet. Will my use of Panasonic in this post make a difference? I have no idea. But adwords isn't a perfect application yet. It just tries very hard.
MTC Photography
Jeffrey, I bought the DMW-CLX3 case from Japan, it is nicely made, I like it. The price is reasonable, I remember I paid about $150 for a much small case for a Minox DCC M3.

MTC Photography
I also bought DMW-LW46 Panasonic wide angle converter lens with DMW-LA4 adapter. In this case I use the bottom part of DMW-CLX3 attached the LX3 for better grip, and use a $9 generic case for the LX3+LA4+LW46.
I find that without the half case, the LX3+LA4+LW46 is a bit hard to grip due to the slim body and front heavy lens, the case offers a much better grip

MTC Photography
The CLX3 case is great for carry around the LX3 camera without any filter or adapter lens.
If you intend to add a UV filter, you need LA4 adapter with 46mm thread filter, you will be
better off looking for a small generic case. When I am not useing wide angle converter,
I use LX3 +LA4+ 46MM UV filter, and without lens cap, thus I don't have to take off lens cap
put on lens cap , take off, put on.....
My $9 generic case is quite ugly, it has a zipper to close, I have to punch a hole on the case to thread neckstrap through. Don't expect to find a generic case with a thread though tripod screw exactly at the right position for LX3.
fp_anderson
Josh,
I remember reading in another forum here that the writer stated he had trouble buying a camera with the same brand name on it as his toaster oven. Maybe that is why the "P" word has been ommited?
As to the pouch I mentioned above if it does not work out I am sure lots of other uses could be found - but it does stretch and might allow for the filter addition.
FP
