sbp
This may be the dumbest question of the week, but I cannot find an answer in any Canon literature, so appeal to the PN community. I am using 1D3 and 1Ds3 bodies. Both have a pin embedded in the base to attach a hand strap. I prefer to hang cameras on my shoulder, and using the base pin and right-hand top point hangs the grip in a ready-to-shoot position.
The question is this... Is the base pin of equal load bearing capacity to the two top points, or is it only meant to stabilize a hand strap? I really want to use this configuration, but have nightmares about dumping a body and long lens.
I realize this is a fairly lame question. Anyone providing a legitimate answer is free to ridicule my ignorance...
catchlight
I can't answer your specific question, but can offer an alternative:
Combine a Really Right Stuff L-bracket, with a Kirk Enterprises heavy-duty security strap. This will give you a bomb-proof shoulder strap for carrying a heavy DSLR/lens combination, that is quick-release as well.
http://www.kirkphoto.com/accessories.html (scroll down to about the fifth item).
