rich_weiss
I recently ordered my 2nd M7 (USA Passport)and the button for exposure compensation stuck in the very 1st time I pushed it in, allowing the exposure compensation +/- 2 stops to freely spin. I promptly called my dealer and he shipped me a new one, actually sending one before he recd mine back. The 2nd one had an on/off switch problem - the shutter release pressed down all the way even when the on/off switch was in the off position. Additionally when the motor drive (new version) was attached, the shutter button was not always being pushed back up in the slow mode, but fine in the faster mode.Again the dealer sent me a 3rd M7, again crossing it in the mail without charging my card again. Everything seems fine, but the shutter button does not push back up as I think it's supposed to. The 3rd M7 works fine in the non motor drive mode.I called Leica NJ to tell them I was disappointed to go thru all this trouble to get a 2nd M7. My dealer Eli Kurland has been most helpful, but I think Leica should watch quality control better. My question, has anyone else experienced a problem with the shutter release not being forced up forcefully by the motor drive? It was forceful on my old M6TTL and is still forceful on my 1st M7 which I've had since they came out. thanx
paul_chefurka1
Nope, mine works fine with the motor. Bummer about the QC...
david enzel
I understand your disappointment but you sure have a very trusting and responsive dealer.
rich_weiss
After playing with my 4th M7 and the motor, it is probably OK, just not quite as crisp as my first M7 with a motor. However there were distinct problems with M7 #2 and #3 as mentioned above. And Eli has been great to deal with over all these years. He even gave me a new hood for a very slightly used lens I just acquired thru him.
john_collier2
Variation in the amount of shutter release "bouncing" is normal. I have had cameras that have a good deal of bounce and others that hardly move at all. It is an adjustable linkage and the important thing is that it works. If there is a problem with the camera/motor jamming, then it is time to replace or repair it.
richard_ilomaki
Dear All: "Sic transit Gloria Wetzlar/Solms". Of my last cameras acqired since my M6-Konica Hexar RF,(N) Hexar Black,(U) Graflex Super Speed Graphic,(U) Seagull 4a-109.(N) Nikon FM3a,(N) all have worked perfectly out of the box, or from the previous owner. I will not buy a new Leica, partly because of the distributors/agents and partly because of all this. If I ever buy a Leica again it will be used and proven from somone I know. jay_.
I will not buy an M7 without the 5-year warranty; ditto an R8. Repair probability and expense too high. Also none of the independent repairpeople have tools or training for them.
hasan_malik
I too recently had to return my new M7 because the top bar of the last digit of the LED display refused to light up, so that when the shutter speed indicated ends with the digit "0", it reads a "U" instead. I was disappointed with the QC, particularly as Leicas now come with signed QC inspection tabs. Keeping my fingers crossed on the replacement.
