Where does all the dust go

Noob to this particular forum<br>

With most (or all) of the current line-up of Canon EOS bodies having automatic sensor cleaning mode, where does all the dust go?<br>

Is there a "sticky bin" below the sensor that catches the dust or does it get thrown off the sensor and into the mirror box and beyond? Over time, does the body fill up with dust?<br>

<p>Yes, there's a sticky bin (or strip) that's supposed to catch the dust (whether it does or not I don't know).</p>

<p>I guess after a few centuries of cleaning you might fill the mirror box up with dust, but it's not something I'd worry about.</p>

So some praise the system with pristine sensors whilst others complain that sensor dust is flung around the mirror box and back onto the sensor. Obviously in time, the dust will collect inside the camera...</p>

<p>I think it does a decent job of kicking off the loose stuff. You still have to clean the sensor once in a while, but for me it's only been just after some unusually dirty event or else after months of use.... and I'm not particularly careful about my very frequent lens changes. Some dirt just doesn't shake off that easily.</p>
