andy_chubb
Hi,
going with the oft-quoted mantra of investing in quality lenses rather than spending the money on a new body, I have the following quandry.
Next summer I will look to upgrade my trusty D80 to the D700 (or equivalent at that time). For now I have a chance to buy either (funds won't permit both...) a used copy of a 28mm 2.8 AIS or a 35mm 1.4 AIS.
Both are highly rated lenses and I don't mind stumping up a bit more cash for the 35mm.
My only beef is that I bought the 35mm f2 AF-D earlier this year - nice lens for all sorts of occasions. Would the 35mm 1.4 beat it for the cost, or should I just plump for the 28mm for now?
andyc

I guess not. The AF 35mm/2.0 is an excellent choise IMO - I have one myself. Bang for the bucks!
carl_becker2
I had looked into a 35mm lens for my D700. I like fast lenses but decided to good with the 35mm f2 AIS after reading about them at http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html
I also have and enjoy the Nikkor 28mm f2 AIS. I would just keep your f2 unless you really need one faster stop. Used f1.4's are about twice the price of f2's bigger and heavier.

aldrich
Rene makes a good point...we will always have "one more lens" to get...
If you must get one, Get the 35 1.4. Speed is always a more important factor that wide angle, and your 35 can easily serve as a 28...in the words of Ernst Haas...
"Best wide-angle lens? Two steps backward."
