catherine_jones1
I'm in charge of scanning all our old family photos and am having problems with the old silver prints. The reflectivity of the silver is a problem with my scanner. I've tried scanning with the pictures at different orientations on the scanner bed and tried some fixes in PSE6. Unfortunately, PSE6 doesn't have channel separations so I can't do that. I have not yet tried photographing the images, but I think that's what I might end up having to do. Do you guys have any good ideas for digitizing these old photos? Can you clean the silver off of them without ruining the photo? Searching for tips has not been productive since I don't actually know what search terms to use. What are these types of prints called?
Here's a link to one so you can see what I'm talking about...
Thanks everyone!
kory gunnarsen
It is called silvering. Search that for an easy fix. Involves scanning twice. Having the scaner scan the same image twice but with the image turned in the second scan. Then combine them in PS with a blending mode to make it dissapear.

kory gunnarsen
If you are shooting it try it with polorizers on your lights or lens. Try wetting the print then shooting it. Any way you can change the light hitting the print will help out.
