chris_graamans
Hi all, Is there any way to have the D300 meter exposures beyond 30 seconds long? Thanks! Chris
Jerry_
Not likely, as the camera's computer cannot guess how long you plan on keeping the shutter open. [You could try a f32 exposure in 'A' for a night scene and see if the shutter speed will exceed 30 seconds.]
chris_werner
I don't think so, but if you're uncertain how to establish the exposure for the scene, take a shot metered to set a base line and then increase by factors of 2 (i.e., multiples of f-stops) based on what you see in the resulting image. There should also be some guides online that a search would reveal giving sample exposure guidelines for night photography.
errol young
My 300 has a bulb setting at the lower end as well as an x sync setting
chris_graamans
Gerald, I guess I contradicted myself between the title and the question. I realize BULB relies on me closing the shutter manually - hence no auto exposure.
Chris - I think you answered my question: no auto exposure past 30 sec.
Thanks,

Chris
