A pair of CF card questions

I pulled out the D1X this evening to use over the holiday and when I put one of my older cards in it the camera wouldn't see it, acting as if no card was there. Couldn't format or anything. Put the same card in my D200 and had no probems. I won't use this card again but wonder what has happened. It has been used in D1X and H bodies as well as D2H and D200 bodies. I always format a card as soon as it goes in the camera. It's an older Lexar card and no great loss but still....While I was out shopping for a laptop this afternoon I saw a number of name-brand CF cards in the 4 and 8 gig sizes. Will any of these run properly in the D1X or am I limited to 1 or 2 gig cards? I know this was asked recently but don't recall a definitive answer. Thanks.

It would not hurt to check the instruction book for your D1X body. The max size CF card is probably indentifed in the camera's manual.

The max in the manaul are the max at that time, try to find out if the camera uses fat 16 or fat 32 with fat 16 you are limted to 2GB.

The D1X uses FAT16 while the D200 uses FAT32. Save any content you might want to keep from that card and then re-format it in FAT16. Since it worked on the D1X before, it should still work again as the card doesn't seem to be broken.
