Manfrotto 475b vs 058b (Bogen 3051/3251)

Hello everyone,
I´m in search for a new heavy duty tripod for medium format. The mentioned tripods seem like what I need, but can´t decide between the two: The 475b is smaller and 4 pound lighter than the 058b, but the latter offers the unique leg-adjusting mechanism and doesn´t cost much more. Both support about 25 pounds. Makes the 058b things really much easier?

Greetz, Benjamin

I have the 3251, which as you note is essentially the same as the 058. It is convenient to open and close if you are able to carry the tripod with the lower leg sections extended to your personal preference, or if you are short enough that they can be left closed. (I just leave my lower leg sections extended 10 cm. or so.) You can then use the "automatic" leg-adjusting mechanism to get a quick initial position, lock the center brace, and make fine adjustments with the center column. If you need to use the twist-locks on the lower legs every time you set up the tripod, it is not convenient at all.
