gman
My favorite camera is the F2. Other cheaper options include the Nikkormat FT2 and FT3. You can get a good F2 for under 200 bucks at KEH and other places.
photo5
Nikon F3HP. Just kidding. I'd get a good old Nikon FM or FM2. I have the FM, paid less than $50 for the body. A great compact inexpensive manual Nikon SLR.
Michael R Freeman
The most "modern" body that fits your budget would be the FM2n. Easy to find in excellent condition for under $200. Can't really go wrong with one of those.
liljuddakalilknyttphotogra
My very first Nikon was a FM. That was stolen out of my apartment in my security building on the first floor. They picked out the window & climbed in while I took my dog for a walk. :-( My second Nikon was another FM - that was stolen off a plane flying from Stockholm to Paris. I had left it in my mother-in-laws care & she forgot it. :-( I have always missed me FM since. I am slowly searching for a next to mint FM - - lost one in the box on eBay. :-( I want one just because........ If it was me - - I love that camera & will actively search for one till I locate one. Lil :-)
lex_jenkins
An FM2 or FM2N would be among the best values among all-mechanical models actually manufactured by Nikon. Anything older might need a CLA, so you'd want to factor the cost of servicing into the overall price.
seismiccwave
Don't forget, my old Nikon F2 needed a battery for the light meter. So most likely you will still need a battery. Not like batteries for the digital camera but you still need a battery.
jose_angel
In this order, FM2n, FM2 or F2, FM, FT3, FT2, FTN, whatever but in good condition. With more modern and/or better condition ones you`ll have more possibilities of shutter accuracy.

For long exposures (nightphotography) the camera doesent use lightmeter hole exposure thank you for all. Think i going for FM2n or FM2
leicaglow
The FM is one rugged bugger. It has never failed me and I can't imagine how many tens of thousands of images it has given up. I honestly don't know what I'd do if something happened to it.
k_k_chan
FM3a also works without a battery. I guess it is the only AE SLR camera with full mechanical control.
lex_jenkins
Yes, the FM3a works without batteries, but it won't fit within the specified budget (around $200) unless someone is willing to sell one in good condition for a fraction of the market value. b_c12
FM, FM2, FM2n - all great choices. All are bargains, too. Like others have said above, watch out for those needing CLA.....could easily (particularly on FM) exceed the cost of the body!
