galileo42
Besides Canon's software, what third party converter can read and process Raw files form the Canon G10? I know LR 2 can process the G9's files, as does ACR 4.6, but what about the G10's? Thank you.
sattler123
At least with CS3 there is no solution yet. ACR does not recognize the G10s files - unfortunately. Knowing Adobe - they will make this only available in CS4. The DNG converter has the same problem - the G10 is not yet supported. The only solution is indeed DPP - for now. pbizarro
No doubt ACR will support the G10 soon. In the meantime, Canon's DPP is actually not that bad.
scott_ferris
How about Adobe's free DNG RAW converter? I am in the process of converting all my proprietary RAW's to open format DNG's. looks like they will have a much longer lifespan too. Take care, Scott. mwaks
I would be surprised if Adobe were to restrict new camera raw to only CS4. It's to soon in the game. The protests would be overwhelming.
scott_ferris
Michael, Adobe have already said they are not supporting any more RAW upgrades for CS3, they are going to concentrate on supporting CS4. It is a done deal, if your camera is not supported now there is little chance it ever will be, one more compelling reason to DNG everything, it is fully suppoerted and free and allows you to open the latest RAW files in pretty much any program. Take care, Scott.
bruce_margolis
Michael, I agree with you but the others are right. This is what Adobe says: "Camera Raw 5 and later is not compatible with Photoshop CS3." Yes, outrageous. Here is the latest from Adobe. Very curious that the latest ACR supports the new Nikon P6000 P&S (which is a weird proprietary RAW not even supported by Nikon's own software) but not the G10. I have read that the G10 support will be out later this month. http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
sattler123
As of last week, teh DNG converter did not recognize the G10 files either! AFAIK you cannot yet convert G10 RAW to DNG. Would love for someone to tell me that I am wrong, as I prefer using ACR over DPP.
john_mccormack
RAW Therapee 2.4beta will work, I think. http://www.rawtherapee.com/
scott_ferris
Juergen, It won't be long before the DNG converter does support the G10 and it will be free, frustrating and a seemingly pointless workaround but that is progress! Take care, Scott.
roger_smith4
LR 2 will also be able to process the files.
bill_tuthill
Interesting, John. In Michael Hohner's very recent comparison of RAW converters, I liked RAW Therapee best. Bibble is the only one that runs on Linux, which is where I prefer to edit images, but they don't support the G10 yet.
neil_johnstone
LR2 is not able to process the files yet - maybe the next update?
bill_tuthill
Neil is correct, Roger is wrong, Lightroom2 cannot process G10 RAW.
scott_ferris
Roger used the future tense, he said LR2 will be able to process the files after I said DNG converter will soon. He isn't wrong, but the G10 is not very third party friendly yet, not long I suspect though..... Take care, Scott.
guido_h
Adobe DNG converter 5.2 is able to convert G10 RAW now.
