110 Film Speed Setting

I have just picked up a Minolta 110 Zoom SLR Mark II and when using 200 ASA Solaris film do I need to adjust the

film speed compensation dial, as I think I have read here that the cartridge will only indicate 64ASA or 400 ASA . If

so what compensation ought I to dial in for 200 ASA?

You could try -1. The cartridge is notched for 100, not 400.

 

But, color print film is so tolerant of overexposure, and underexposure is so deadly (grain) with such small film, that overexposing the film may be the better choice.

More likely the low speed setting would be ISO 64 so that Kodachrome 64 could be exposed correctly. The overexposure for Kodacolor would have been beneficial. Verichrome Pan tended to be a bit dense unless one cut back on the development a bit or used exposure compensation. The high speed notch was ISO 250 rather than 400. This was done to get finer grain from the ISO 400 film of the day. I read that in an old photo magazine when Kodacolor 400 was introduced in 110. A similar scheme was used for 126. Again ISO 64 for correct exposure of Kodachrome and Ektachrome, but ISO 160 to accomodate High Speed Ektachrome. This meant that when Tri-X became available in 126, it was exposed at an E.I. of 160.

Nick, as far as I know the Minolta 110 SLR camera you have is keyed to expose 100 or 400 speed film - all other makes were as Mike says - 64 speed as the slow setting.

 

My 110 Mk 2 SLR exposes very well if you set it at -1/2 stop and the camera will slightly overexpose the film, lowering the grain in the shadow areas.
