So I count at least four lights on the sitter: The two long strip lights on either side, a top key and a bottom key -- both of these are heads with small (7"?) reflectors with diffusion, and even though he has those modeling lights turned off, the background is lit as well.

 

 

What is also interesting is how he engages and directs the subject even though he is shooting very close with an 8x10 view camera,
