buster douglas
Would anyone know the BEST place I can get information on a Yashica Electro 35 GSN, manual, parts, lens, ect. I just bought one in MINT CONDITION and I mean MINT, IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS NEVER BEEN USED. I bet it will take great photos but I need a battery and a owners manual and would like to see if I can buy other lenses for it, but like I said it looks like it has never been used . Thank you very much----- Excited
jim_momary
Welcome to the GSN, a fine, under-rated camera. Great info here -... http://www.photoethnography.com/ClassicCameras/index-frameset.html?YashicaElectro35GSN.html~mainFrame ... and here ... http://www.mattdentonphoto.com/cameras/yashica_gsn.html ... and here ... http://www.kenrockwell.com/yashica/electro-35.htm ... and here ... http://www.yashica-guy.com/ ....... manual here - ... http://www.butkus.org/chinon/yashica/yashica_electro_35_gsn/yashica_electro_35_gsn.htm ... which is Mr. Butkus' shareware site, well worth the small donation! I think you'll enjoy the GSN; quiet, unassuming, sharp lens, accurate exposure. Read up on the failure modes, i.e the 'POD' of death, the battery wire etc. I have 4, one is for parts. Sort of like chips, can't just have one :-) Weird me. Jim M.
mark_brown14
For manuals, memorize: www.butkus.org. Batteries: the old PX640s. Google "Yashica GSN batteries" for options. As for trying other lenses... 'fraid not. It's fixed. And when you've put a roll through it, share your results on the Classic Cameras forum here on photo.net. I realize it's technically three years past the cut-off, but since the guys there were discussing auto-focus the other day I can't imagine they'd mind. By the way; congratulations! yann1
As for lenses, there are 2 that you can add to your lens, one is a wide angle, the other a tele... There are always some available on ebay. I had them once and found them useless, since they won't change things much and you have to focus differently. i use a 4lr44 battery with a homemade adapter. The sharpness is really good, and f1.7 is a very fast lens. The problem is the shutter speed, the camera chooses it for you. but in case you want to change it (add a filter or for any other reason) I suggest that you "cheat" the camera by changing the iso. For example, if you're using an orange filter with a 400 film, set the iso to 250, that will do the trick.
Lou_Meluso
"IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS NEVER BEEN USED. I bet it will take great photos but I need a battery " Congrats on your find! Be aware that even with perfect cosmetics often this camera can have electrical problems and since it's an electric shutter that means only one speed 1/500 works. I went through several before finding an operating one. BUT....what a great lens and bright finder! I hope yours works out well.
charles_stobbs3
I bought one, found the wire from the battery compartment to the battery check button was corroded through, but after replacing it and installing a Radio Shack 6 volt battery and some crumpled up aluminum foil to make it fit it is great. It's too heavy and bulky to carry very far however.

ilich_zuniga
The Yashica Electro is an awesome camera! I have four of them. If I were you, I'd look out for rangefinder issues, many times the rangefinder is a little off. Also, light leaks, all but one of the Electro's that I've bought has had this problem in some capacity. Other than that, rejoice! The Electro is a fine camera.
