dominic_romer
I'm trying to find a Canon A650 IS. It has most of the features of the G9 but it also has the variable lcd andcan take AA batteries. The problem is I can hardly find it anywhere. B&H says it's discontinued and I can't findit on Adorama either. I know it had a recall is that why no shops are carrying it? Has Canon written off this model? I can't find anything else with similar specs and a variable LCD. I know of the IS5, but I'd rather have a morepocketable camera Anyone have know of any reputable sellers online that have the A650 IS? Or maybe a similar speced model byanother manufacturer that I should be looking at? .
peter_daalder
I had no trouble finding this model at Amazon.
reichard
The A650is is a great take-anywhere camera -- plus there's CHDK for it that gives you some great features such as bracketing and RAW support.
dominic_romer
If I do get this camera where do I get the CHDK?

dominic_romer
I found it on Amazon. It's price 100$ more than msrp on the canon site. I'm not about to pay more than msrp for a 2 year old p&s.
anov
First of all the A650 IS was introduced in August/September 07, that's ONE year ago. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/07082001canona650720.asp Most likely, a replacement model is on the way very shortly. This replacement will likely to be better overall than the A650 IS. If you can afford to wait, I would wait for this "A660 IS".
dominic_romer
Thanks for the correction, does that mean it's worth $100 more than msrp?
phule
Any time Canon is about to introduce a new model the supply chain for the previous model dries up and prices rise. This should be a good indication of the cameras popularity. I own one and it's a very nice camera, but I do not think it's worth the current Amazon.com price. I would wait and see what Canon announces in September.
el_fang
The most obvious place to look would be eBay where there are dozens of brand new ones for sale. Any reason why you haven't looked there?
dominic_romer
I don't really like buying electronics online in auctions. I prefer to buy new from places like B&H or Adorama. That's what this thread was originally about, finding a major camera store that has them in stock.
el_fang
That's what seller feedback is for, and that's what credit card protection is for. You're making a mountain out of a molehill. If you're that desperate for a new A650 IS, your favorite brick-and-mortar stores are all out of stock, and you're purposely writing off the most obvious next place to look, then I don't know what to tell you. anov
Unless you don't want a refurbished camera, here's a refurb one available thru Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/ICAA650R.html?searchinfo=Canon%20Powershot%20A650&item_no=
