francis_thibault
I am not the first person to have a corrupted CF Card but I havent found the exact same problem. Here is the problem : I have took many pictures on a 8 gb CF Card ExtremeIV. The thumbnails were always displaying while I was shooting. I came back home, put the card in a CF reader. It asked me to format the card before being able to read it. I have hit Cancel. Put the card back in my Canon 10D. It now says CF error! When I put the card in the computer the card appears as Nikon D200. Altough I have a 10D and only took pics with my 10D (never had a Nikon in my life) I have bought the card on Ebay. Is it possible that it was used and the last user had a Nikon D200 and formated the card with that camera. I have read about photo rescue but I would like to create a a backup image first in case it erases everything (the pictures are about 3\4 of my trip in California!) Thank you! jonathans
Do you have a Windows or a Mac? I've used DiskImage to do a byte-by-byte image of flash drives - http://www.dubaron.com/diskimage/. It's a windows program - can be a bit technical to use but its free. A good file recovery utility shouldn't delete anything off the flash drive - it will just read it and attempt to recover files. .th
with your extreme IV you probably got a disk containing scandisk's file recovery program. i've been able to save most (unfortunately not all) content from a corrupt card using that program. good luck! ronald_moravec1
You should have formatted the card in your camera before you used it. This is very basic.

josh_baker
If you bought it from e-bay then you should check to make sure it is not a fake. I got one once, and now I never even look at cards on e-bay. Take a look at this link to see if you got a real one:
Ebay Fake Sandisk Cards Exposed

wilfried_jahnke
If your memory card wants to be formatted or can't format in 80% of all cases the controller of your card is damaged and no software or card reader can help. You must separate the memory chip and dump the raw data to recover your data, look here: http://card-recovery.biz/us/service.php
