Another K100D super question

I love taking pictures of carnival lights at the fair. I used to get good slides each year, but now that slides are no

longer an option for photo contest at the fair I am trying digital. When I try to go to a lower exposure than the camera

on auto recommends as I want parts to be black as it is night time I end up with pictures that look blue rather than

dark in the non lighted areas. I think the same question would apply in taking fireworks photos. I want the sky black

not some much lighter shade of blue.

What am I missing in this

Thanks

Make sure you are exposing for the lights, not the sky. If the sky dominates your frame, the meter will want to make the

sky a middle tone (i.e. 18% grey), so you have to crank the exposure down from what the meter will tell you.

What kind of slide film did you shoot in the past? You should be able to mimic the same exposure values as you had

before, but you may have to do a little math if you were shooting Kodachrome 64 and now are stuck at ISO 200.<div>00QGMJ-59198884.jpg.fb56c4d716b847b2777d6db88f78a0ec.jpg</div>
