iangriffiths
Hi All, I've been scanning around the web this morning trying to find a couple of reasonably priced OEM EN-EL3e as I hatethe idea of using cheap copies. You know the sort I mean, ᆪ6 for the battery and charger as opposed to ᆪ40 forthe OEM battery only. However, my search turned up a Duracell and Energizer version. In my eyes, both are well respected and known forquality batteries. The Duracell is even has a bit more power too. Has anyone ever used either of them and if so, are they any good? http://www.duracelldirect.co.uk/digital-camera/nikon/oem-pno/en-el3e.html?gclid=CIyBzJDTqpQCFRKS1QodmHm1tw Thanks Ian
robert_hooper1
Don't take a chance on aftermarket batteries, Ian. Battery interface to camera body has to be just right for everything to work properly, and sometimes Nikon doesn't even succeed in doing this. Remember Nikon battery recall? At least when Nikon screws up, you have some recourse, otherwise its, Sayonara Babe.
hans_janssen
Most of them work in a D200 and don't work in a D300.....
ShunCheung
There is electronic circuit in those batteries. The 3rd-party manufacturers need to reverse-engineer Nikon's design and they typically do not perform a perfect job. All Nikon needs to do is to make some minor change to each generation of new cameras and all of a sudden a bunch of 3rd-party batteries will become incompatible. My wife bought a generic battery for her Sony camcorder a few years ago, as the Sony battery was out of stock at the time. A year later she bought a new camcorder. When she used that battery on the new camcorder, it would display on its LCD that one should use a genuine Sony battery and then immediately shut itself off. iangriffiths
Thanks all, I just thought that Nikon would have their batteries made by a battery specializing company such as duracell, so these would be a better choice than cheap Chinese imports. I should know from my work as a HP specialist that if you don't use genuine parts, then any warranty can easily be invalidated, but you often wonder, why buy HP branded memory, when Kingston make nothing else? It's always a dilemma I have to deal with, especially when the finance people are involved, but in this case, having all your eggs in one basket, means there is only one basket to blame if it all goes wrong. OK, the hunt continues. hoping to get under ᆪ25, so here goes!
ShunCheung
Here in the colonies, you can buy a genuine EN-EL3e for as little as US$32. That is about 16 British Pounds, not including VAT: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BYCKU8/nmphotonet-20 And another horror story of cheap 3rd-party batteries; see Stan Chang's post: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00NAuB
aether
Like using cheap petrol, not worth the risk ... better to find a genuine battery secondhand (your camera will be able to check its life expectancy).

aether
Just checked Calumet UK (OP is from UK) & they sell the OE Nikon battery for fifty pounds, their own brand for forty pounds, neither price is very good. In UK, one should be able to source OE Nikon EN-EL3e for about thirty-five pounds.
Richard Williams
Several traders that sell via Amazon UK list the original Nikon version for <30 GBP including postage.

ShunCheung
Robert, that was not your fault. Photo.net's software has a bug with links to Amazon UK. We are informing the developers to fix that. I am leaving the bad link there so that they'll have a chance to see what the problem is.
iangriffiths
Once again, thanks for all the info guys. I have bought a couple off a UK Ebay Store for ᆪ24.90 each. Genuine, boxed, guaranteed, etc. Amazon ones looked like they had a strange postage cost as they were from an Amazon store. Hopefully, I have a friend who is off to the States later in the year and he'll get me some more goodies I need. Cheers Ian
