mwtphoto
I want to buy a flatbed scanner to scan my film collection to digital. I have most of the original negatives so i would like a scanner that did film as well as prints. I have narrowed it down to epson or canon. any thoughts as to which make a model you would recommend for me to buy? thank you for your time. cheers. robert lee
Buy a Nikon V for $500. If you've a large amount of film to scan, get the Nikon 5000 - it's faster. Either of these dedicated film scanners will give noticeably better results than a flatbed. Either will basically extract all the image information there is on the film. Buy any ~$100 scanner for the print. Unless the prints are really exceptionally done, there will be no more than ~2MP on them to begin with. A 300dpi scan will generally be just fine.
