shuo_zhao
>> http://www.canon.com.au/products/cameras/digital_slr/eos1000d.aspx I wonder where's the CanonUSA press release.
bobatkins
I can hardly wait for the "should I get an XT, and XTi, an XS or an XSi?" questions. Not to mention the 30D and 40D. Too many choices. People will get headaches. I'm sure Canon USA will get around to posting it soon. That will make 4 Rebel models on their site since the still have the XTi and XT on there as well as the XSi. PuppyDigs
"I can hardly wait for the "should I get an XT, and XTi, an XS or an XSi?" questions." I've seen the "XSi or 5D" question many times already... Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
cabbiinc
Still alot of speculation about the price I see. In both the Au site and the Japanese site Canon is claiming a capable shot burst of 514 shots Jpeg. Is that a typo?
yakim_peled1
Why am I not surprised? http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00PUVq Happy shooting, Yakim.
shuo_zhao
>> "In both the Au site and the Japanese site Canon is claiming a capable shot burst of 514 shots Jpeg." I think the camera has an unlimited JPEG bust limit at 3 fps. The XS is essentially everything I like about the XSi with nothing else I don't really need. mark u
Here's Canon Europe's official press release: http://www.canon-europe.com/About_Us/News/Consumer_Releases/Consumer_2008_EOS_1000D.asp PDF with more detail: http://www.canon-europe.com/Images/EOS%201000D_Technical_Press_Release_FINAL-EM_tcm13-528646.pdf
mark u
European list pricing is given as 549 Euro body only, 599 with 18-55 and 649 with 18-55 IS. You can bet that it will rapidly position itself to be competitive against the Nikon D40X. cabbiinc
Still no spot metering.
shuo_zhao
>> "You can bet that it will rapidly position itself to be competitive against the Nikon D40X." It's obviously a better camera than the D40x, even a D60. Most significantly it doesn't have the AF competibility problems of the compact nikon DSLRs. mark u
Two areas where Canon have shaved (almost literally!) cost: the viewfinder is tiny at 0.81 magnification - you may want to use live view, and the sensor is just 14.8x22.2mm - 1.62 crop. None of these is nearly as bad as the AF competibility issue. I think people who had some experience using compact DSLRs would feel OK with the small viewfinder. The sensor is a standard APS-C size unit, like the ones in XXD cameras (I wonder whether it has 40D's sensor...).
paul hart
<<I think the camera has an unlimited JPEG bust>> How on earth will they fit that on a 2.5 inch screen?
mark u
It is also supposed to be compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) - so perhaps finally Canon will provide software that is Leopard compatible for other bodies too.
bjscharp
I think people who are frustrated with using a P&S's LCD in bright sunlight will love ANY viewfinder, regardless of the magnification (if they even know what it means). All in all, nice attack from Canon, but I'm sticking to my 400D for now :-)
chrisjb
Hmm, would this make a good backup for my 1ds2 or should I stick with the 40d? I found live view very power hungry, could be disappointing if a P&S upgrader is exspecting to use it more than a tiny VF :) unless its been improved
manyip
Now Canon open a new level of DSLR with APS-C sensor, would it be possible that they want to move the next 50D up a level, maybe to full frame sensor to respond to the competition?
dave92029
The most important question: Will the new 10mp XS have less noise at ISO 1600 than the 10mp 40D?
apetty
What I don't understand is why, the XSI just came out. Its barely had a chance to get cold on the shelf. And I thought canon only announced new cameras at the 2 big expos during the year.
chrisjb
Adam, my supplier has it listed under the 450. looks like canon is making a smaller step from P&S, at 450 grams must be small :)
