File Counter stuck on 999 5D

My counter is stuck on 999, and I can't determine why this is. Can any one help?

How large of a card do you have?

 

I'm sure this isn't it, but on my 40D w/16GB card, i need to take a few hundred before the counter gets down to 999

I have the same thing - switch to RAW, you'll see the counter drop to 95x ... if you JPEG it, it's huge and counter goes till 999... that's all.

Normal. 999 is the largest number it can display, If you stick a 32GB card in there and shoot small JPEGs, it will stay at 999 for a LONG time!

It's called the "Shots Remaining" counter countdown. Is that your question? There are spaces for only three digits, what more can the LCD display do for you?

It should display "Inf". :)

If you mean the file numbering system (which should stop at 9999, I think) you can reset it in the menu, under file numbering. If you mean the shot remaining counter, depending on the memory card and the size / quality of the images you are shooting, there can be a varying number of shots remaining from 1000's to 0.

And .. you can write to Canon to start putting in an extra digit there, now that cards are crossing 15Gb. mark regularly.

The camera will only display a maximum of 999 shots remaining if ther are 999 shots or more remaining on your card. There is nothing wrong with your camera-it is not "stuck". All of this information is easily acquired by reading your camera manual. It really depends on what quality setting you are on and the size of your memory card.

That is one of the reasons I bought a 16gb card :)

 

In the 40d, not sure if it will work on the 5d, you can hit the info button a few times and it will give you a

screen that has the approx shots remaining over 999 (usually about 10XX on a 16gb card)
