Defining a brush

The short version of the question is... why will Photoshop not allow me to

define a brush.?

The long version is... I am trying to define a brush which is my name and the

copyright symbol.

So I make a text layer with my name.

then add from custom shape tool a path in the shape of the copyright symbol.

Marquee around both and go to define brush preset under the Edit menu.

Sometimes it allows it and sometimes it is greyed out and won�t allow clicking

that option. What criteria is not being met when I can�t select this option?

I don't know if this applies to your situation, but apparently there's a size limit to the brush you

can make. I just tried it on an image, and if I made a selection one size it worked, and if I

made it bigger it was grayed out. I don't know what the limit is though.

that does sound very likely, it happens so seemingly randomly, I think that is as good an answer as any.
