mls
Hi, Can anyone tell me what these white spots are that are showing up on most of my recent shots straight from the camera? This one in particular is with my rebel xt and canon 75-300 mm USM lens. It also shows up when using my 18-55mm lens and with or without my polarizing and uv filters so I don't think it can be from a lens or filter issue. I thought it may be dust of some sort but there's not much change after cleaning the sensor. Thanks.

g dan mitchell
I'm not sure. Do they only show up on the very long exposures? If so, it _could_ be that you need to turn on the long exposure noise reduction feature on your camera. (I'd do that anyway.) But what I see doesn't seem to quite fit the pattern for that either - in my experience some of the spots would be colored and they would all be uniformly one pixel wide. alex_lofquist
Were you using an on-camera flash that might have illuminated an insect to create the out-of-round "circle" in the lower left corner?
mls
The flash may have gone off. I realized about 20 shots in that it was still on auto and switched it to no flash and these were taken around that time. That may be it, thanks! These were not long exposure shots, but I get the noise reducer turned on anyways. Thanks!
frank uhlig
Any insect bites at the lake? The "white points" streak in different directions and the flash made them white because it went full bore as it could not really light up the scene in any tangible way. Some of the bugs are larger (closer to the lens) than others. Fauna and flora as well as water and clouds, mountains and rocks, quite a comprehensive picture you took! mt4x4
If you think you have a dusty sensor, the best (as far as quick) test is a shot of a nice clear blue sky, focused to infinity.

Otherwise, you have captured a spectacular shot of fireflys.
phule
Objects on the sensor would block light, thus be dark, not white.
