sven_felsby
Stein, IF Canon decided to scrap APS-C sensors, they would certainly offer a "crop feature" on their FF sensors - like Nikon does with the D3. So fear not. However, APS-C sensors offer many advantages, so I am certain that they will stay in the Canon program.
alan_rockwood
I'm just imagining what it might have been like back in 1935 if discussion groups like this would have existed: "Do you think the new miniature (35mm) format will eventually disappear?" says the medium format guys. They would have been wrong, at least for subsequent 70 years. Fast forward a few decades and ask the same question about some of the newer miniature formats. They have all pretty much disappeared, so in that case the hypothetical speculations would have been right. What will probably save 1.6x crop cameras is: 1) lower price, 2) good-enough image quality for many users, and 3) ability to use all the full-format lenses. stein_andersen
So, I guess the general concensus is that there will be 1,6x crop mid range prosumer bodies around in the future as well. Anyway, I ordered a 17-55 yesterday, trusting that it'll be excellent and that it'll survive my next camera upgrade. Thanks again!
