murrayatuptowngallery
Canon conveniently does not specify polarity or connector size for the CA-PS500AC adapter. Considering the age of our A85, $65 plus shipping is a bit much to invest. If I knew the coaxial connector size (outer & inner dimensions) and polarity, Iwould have more options. There are less expensive generic adapters on eBay with correct voltage andcurrent ratings, but one honest seller told me he didn't have A85 in his list ofmodels, so he really didn't know about compatibility. Has anyone dealt with this dilemma as well? Thanks Murray
JAPster
The popular electronic retailer, Radio Shack, sells a pretty good selection of AC adaptors, AND a wide range of different sized "tips" which connect their adaptors to a wide range of devices. You need to know the DC Voltage Level your camera needs, the Amperage or Current Rating, and the "orientation" of the plug-in tip. If you know these, the Radio Shack team can help you pick out the combination of adaptor and tip that will be compatible with your camera. The cost will probably be about $20 or more, but thats just a guess. Even if you dont know the exact tip size, you can just show your camera to the RS team, and they can try out different tips till the find the right diameter. murrayatuptowngallery
Thanks. I haven't seen any universal ones as with 2A current rating, and Canon keeps the polarity a secret..I suppose no need to know if you just buy the accessory they sell - probably their intention. HenryUK
I used a 1 amp "universal" power supply set to 6 volts with my A60, centre pin positive. One of the many connectors fitted fine. I would think the A85 was the same, but it's at your own risk. Henry
