stuartwilliams
I'm not sure what's going on. Just got a MacBook - 2nd hand from my fiance and hardly used by her. Bottom of the range...it'll do for now although clearly need RAM upgrade (512MB). CS2 telling me it doesn't read NEF! Downloaded the camera raw plug in and tells me it doesn't read the plug in either. Aaarrgghh! this MacBook is not new. It's still running on OS2. ANy thoughts, suggestions? I've downlaoded every update available.

elmroc
Reason i asked is because if it was a D300 or D3, if i'm not mistaken, CS2 does not support those (i maybe wrong though).
elmroc
I don't know anything about macs or their OS's, so i can't offer any advice on this..sorry. JV
paul beiser
Stuart, I dont believe CS2 natively supports the NEFs from the D80. You have 2 choices:
1) Upgrade to CS3 and get the latest Camera Raw (4.4.1?)
2) Convert your .nef's to dng's (using the Adobe free converter on their site somewhere!) and then edit the .dngs
nolan_ross
I have no experience with Mac but I think for the D80/CS2 you need the Camera Raw plug in 3.7.. After following the insertion instructions for insertion I found I had to un-zip (right click for menu) my plug-in (windows/D200/CS2) before it would work. stuartwilliams
Thanks. CS3 too much right now so will look at the DNG converter, also the Camera Raw plug in 3.7 and un-zipping it.
Jerry_
With 512 of RAM, and an unknown amount of hard-disk space, you may have a really slow time using NEF files on your 'new' MAC. The size of a NEF file get large as you begin editing. [some old copies, legal ones, on Nikon Capture were available at KEH in Atlanta. CS2 and Nikon Capture can work together with D80 NEF files.]
ellis_vener_photography
upgrading from a licensed version of PsCS2 to PsCS3 is around $170.
jim_francis
Do files grow when you convert them from NEF (11 MB approx per image on my D2-X, compressed) to DNG?
jwallphoto
If the D80 came with PictureProject, can't you open it from there and save as a TIF?
scott_burns3
The first thing you should do is download version 3.7 of ACR and install it - following the instructions carefully. Many users have this problem because they put the plugin in the wrong location. That should get you going with the D80 NEFs. The DNG converter shouldn't be necessary in this instance because the D80 was supported in CS2. You'll definitely want more RAM.
