removing camera strap stud removal?

I use a BlackRapid strap that attaches to the tripod mount on the bottom of the

camera. Can the camera strap studs be unscrewed without breaking anything? I

know I can take the triangular hoops off, but that still leaves the uncomfortable

metal stud sticking out. I wouldn't want to permanently remove them in case I sell

the camera one day.

 

This is for a D300, but I assume most of their cameras are about the same. I have

a D200, D70, and D50 also.

I'd phone Nikon. I'd assume they're a standard thread and held in with a little lock-tite.

I wouldn't go cranking on them to try to find out. I had a lug come loose on an Olympus OM-1 once, and after digging down inside, found that the mechanism was very clever, and more complex than you would imagine . . . and foolproof--the lug was never going to drop off, even though it was loose. So without actually seeing how it's done, I don't think you can assume anything about how it's held in place.

I doubt it, I'm pretty sure it's bolted into the magnesium body. I don't suggest trying to pull or twist is out. Compromise: put a little piece of foam or something around it to make it less uncomfortable.
