vincetylor
"Ooops! EOS forum. DOH! :)" **** Whoops for me too... Oh well, if you have never tried the Nikon 17-35, you should take a look at it sometime. Simply Outstanding!

robert_thommes
This question has really taken off. And since I'm the OP here, I suppose I should also contribute a response as well. For a zoom: Tamron 28-75 2.8. And a prime: 50/1.8. I could probably live just fine with either of these lenses; though I do have need for longer(70-300IS) for my nature/wildlife outings. Thanks to all for contributing.

brian_carpenter2
Does anyone use the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM? It is attached to my XTi most of the time.
jon_worth
I've got a copy that stays on my camera most of the time. Great for walkaround use (especially indoor shots while sightseeing), if a little on the heavy side. --Jon

bendog
Jim Binnie, I would go for EF 85 mm and 70-200mm for full frame.<div></div>
truemarkphotography
I use a Sigma 70mm Prime Macro 90% of the time on my full frame 1D...but when you look at my gallery it immediately tells you why. :)
anand_dhupkar
I like 28-105 Nikkor on my D70s. I also have 70-300, however, 28-105 covers pretty good range.

mvisionphotography
I use my 50mm and my 30mm for EVERYTHING! ! honestly I love it for the low light and the ease of it. I can't hold to much weight running around a retirement or function and it just works great EVEN at a SOCCER FIELD TRUTHFULLY! :) I have found the 30mm Sigma (and it works on the D40X) on my Nikon D300 is a great addition for my Nikon 300mm where to 50mm didn't reach. gary_deschenes
EF 28-70mm 2.8 L, never leaves my 5D body or my EOS 1N. Fantastic glass.
martinphotography
Zoom (and walk-around): Nikkon's 18 - 200 mm zoom. It is not the best lens around, and is not fast glass. But it covers the useful ranges, turning into an almost wide angle to almost telephoto, and pretty much gets all the shots. I have even seen a wedding photographer use this lens for all the shots. Prime: Nikkor 60mm 2.8 macro. This turns into a 90mm portrait lens with a fantastic macro. I am taking a series of flower and nature shots, and this lens does not leave my D200. carlwakefield
Prime would be a 35 f1.4 normal walkaround lens Tele 10-22 efs lens as wide angle for landscape and then fun shots.

yakim_peled1
>> 50mm 1.4. Seems to have worked for Cartier-Bresson. :-) I am not as good as Cartier-Bresson so I need more lenses to compensate for that..... :-) Happy shooting, Yakim.
george_pentzikis1
Zoom would be 24-105L for shure, prime, I would have a hard time chooosing between 35 or 50 preferably L.
amirali1
If I were in your shoes i,d choose 24-70 f2.8 L because of its backblurred for zoom , and 135 f2 L because of its backblurred , too , for prime . Also this lenses will do the same work as IS ( wdie f-spot )
denisbergeron
Why in the world someone will use only one lens. If it's a question of budget, get a 50mm. For my self, I work with a full frame and if I have to use only one lens, it will be my 85mm f1.2, because it is a fast lens, a portrait lens, a real fun lens, a small telephoto. and a very, very very sharp lens. My second choise will be the Sigma 12-24mm, maybe it's not the best sharp lens like the 24-105mm but, what a field of view, what a composition nightmare, but what Wow picture go out of this one.
