Hello everyone,

I just got a new to me Pentax 645. This is my first medium format camera, it did

not come with a manual, but I have have found it online but have not found the

answer to my question. When I turn off the power switch the lcd display is still

on. Is this normal to the camera? With the power off I can not take a photo or

see the info inside the view finder. If I eject the battery pack the lcd

display turns off. I have film loaded in the camera and have taken a pics all

this is all working as it should.

Thanks to all who respond to this post.

Take care,

Scott

It is normal for the lcd to remain on when the switch is off and yes with the power off you cannot take a photo or see info inside the viewfinder. You have to turn the camera on to take the photo and to activate the light meter in the viewfinder. Its a quirky camera but a great camera for the price that you get them for these days. I love mine.

As said, it is normal that the LCD display is still on if you power off the 645. When you eject the battery pack at all, the LCD turns off but it still holds the setting in its memory. This LCD (and its memory) is co-powered by a built-in lithium battery which - according to the specification of Pentax - has a life for about 5 years. If it dies the built-in lithium battery needs to be replaced by a Pentax service centre.<p>
