Fuji GX680 some questions

Hi, I recently could not withstand the tepmtation and bought a 680II with 3

batteries, a charger, 65, 100 and 210mm lenses, compendium lenshood, 2 120

magazines, a polaroid model 2 magazine and 3 types of bellows for about 1,400

US$. It came with the boxes for the lenses, a wire release, rail extension of

40mm's and some other small stuff.

Looks like a really nice camera with lots of possiblities.

I was wondering how much lighter a 680IIIS is. It it is a lot lighter, I might

consider one for mountaintreks. I know, it is not light weight but I once

trekked to Everest base camp and Gokyo lakes in Nepal with about 13kg of

cameragear and I did not mind.

Do the magazines for my model II fit the 680III?

Thanks for any help.

Frank,

Afraid I can't offer specific details of weight of 680III vs. 680IIIS, but I doubt it will be significant -- a few ounces at most. The differences are likely just to the front standard, where the lens is attached; even on the III, this is not a substantial item compared to the body itself.

I use a 680III for landscape work, and it is a fine camera for that purpose, but it is a compromise -- I'd much rather have a smaller and less heavy system, but I'm prepared to put up with that issue in order to get movements, esp. tilts. It does limit the distance I can go, however, my back and knees not being what they were.

I also use a Mamiya 7 system for landscape, and it's what I turn to when I need to hike longer distances. Far smaller and lighter, both in body and lenses, it delivers fantastic image quality for it's weight. Strongly recommended if you can find one 2nd-hand (bit pricy new). If only it had tilt! But that's why I took the plunge and bought into the 680III system last year.
