marc_matteo
OK. Stupid question coming. I have Sekonic L-358 that I use for studio lighting. I also do weddings and I want to incorporate this light meter on location. I know how to use it take light readings from my Alien Bees but how do I use it to take readings from my 580EX flash? I use 2 580EX flashes off camera and triggered by a Canon wireless transmitter. I would like to set the camera on a tripod, set the timer and hold the light meter myself where I would have my bride stand and take a reading. But can this be done? picturesque
You can't really. ETTL/II works by using a pre-flash, and the meter will read the pre-flash. You can kind of trick it by using FEL to set the pre-flash off, which the meter will read. Then within 6 seconds, re-set the meter and press the shutter button for the 'real' flash. Reading each flash separately would be impossible, I think. Most people just take a test shot and adjust after evaluating the LCD/histogram.
