terry_rory
I intend to buy a used Nikon film SLR and will be in London this week. I am tempted to look in on Grays of Westminster. (They seem to specialise in nothing but Nikon hence my posting on this forum) I have never dealt with them before so can anyone personally vouch for their service and the accuracy of their second hand equipment gradings? I can see they are not exactly the least expensive but I don't mind so long as they are good people to deal with. Thanks.
andy_blagbrough
Trevor, Yes, I have dealt with them in the past. Not cheap, BUT you get quality and expertise. Andy B
peter davies
Trevor, 1st class quality service on new and second hand goods. Definition of equipment is very accurate and competitively priced too. Regards, Pete (no connection).

terry_rory
Thanks for your speedy and re-assuring responses. I will phone them tomorrow.
simonburgess7
I have bought from Grays over a number of years and would vouch for them 100%. They are truly the very best you will find. Good luck tomorrow.
Ian Rance
Expensive, but good service, AND they even have the special ML-3 brackets in stock! You need it, they have it. Ian
ben__evans
Here here; helpful, reputable, and with a wide range of stock. Expensive, but the shop's lovely. Would recommend. I'd recommend them over ebay, but if money's tight, that could be an alternative. Bear in mind that the condition will most likely not be as accurately described, and there's no guarantee on 'the auction site'.
leif_goodwin8
Accurate descriptions from knowledgeable staff. And they often have items no-one else can get. But they can be rather unctuous. And used prices can be higher than best new UK price with a bit of searching.
terry_rory
Thank you all again. Seems they are (so far) universally well thought of. Thanks especially to Leif for making me reach for my Thesaurus to look up 'unctuous' :-) Leif, so long as no-one starts bowing and uttering the fabled words.. 'Suit you sir' (from BBC's the Fast Show) then I look forward to the trip.
Rob Davies
I had the great honour of a guided tour (and a very nice cup of tea) from Gray, himself, almost 20 years ago. It left a lasting impression.. and I still deal with them today. Got my D3 from them a few weeks back, always a pleasure doing business with. robert_hooper1
You can be confident shopping at Grays. Absolutely first rate. Their used equipment always looked new to me, and unless things have changed since last I was there, Grays offers a one year guarantee on their pre owned equipment. Pay a little more but sleep worry free regarding your purchase. Even if you don't buy anything, Grays is a must see for a Nikon enthusiast visiting London. chansonbleu
Trevor Out of curiosity which Nikon film camera are you buying? Best Regards Steve
terry_rory
Steve, actually I am not yet fixed for certain on a particular camera, but either an FM2n or FM3a with a 50mm f/1.4 AIS (or maybe a 50mm f/1.2 AIS)
michael_pye
You want it, they have it. I don't think the prices are that bad compared to other shops. Ebay is cheaper obviously.
ilkka_nissila
They've got an incredible selection of 2nd hand Nikon lenses. I bought my 28mm f/2 from them; while it was expensive, I've been very happy with it. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Richard Williams
When you're in London check out Aperture: http://www.apertureuk.com Much more down to earth than Grays, and I've had good service from them. They manage to cram a ton of Nikon film gear into a pretty small camera shop with (uniquely) an attached cafe.
david_carlisle1
Trevor, if you are the same Trevor Hare that used to post pictures on the Leica Forum, I think you are a wonderful photographer. Good luck with your Nikon purchase. Dave Carlisle, Perth Western Australia
