abe_hollander
Anyone know how I can save my DNG files to JPEG? The options in my "Save As" dialog box include JPEG 2000 (.jpf, .jpx, .jp2, etc...), but not .jpg. I use Photoshop Elements 6. I end up saving the .dng file as .tif, and then opening the derned thing in another program to convert to .jpg. What's the deal?
bruce_margolis
Abe, I assume you are processing in 16-bit. To save as a JPEG, you need to convert to 8-bit. Click on Image/Mode/8-bit at the top. Then you can use your "SAVE AS" in any form you like.
dan_hall4
Abe, I just learned the same thing (that Bruce mentioned). I was told to use the jpeg, not jpeg 2000. Not sure if it matters, but I wanted to make mention of it. I saved the jpeg from PSE 6.0 into a subfolder on "my pictures" but could not view them. Only icons. But if I put them back in the original folder (where the DNG file was) I could see them as normal. I have no idea why this is. Just thought I would mention this so you would not be surprised to see icons instead of pictures if you use the folder/subfolder method of storing images in "my pictures". However, I could see the image in PSE 6.0 organizer, just not in the subfolders of "my pictures". So maybe using the organizer in 6.0 is the better way to store RAW images. Jury is still out with me. Just thought I would mention it.
abe_hollander
Thanks all. In theory, JPEG 2000 sounds like an improvement, as it's lossless, but I don't know what other differences there might be between that and the original JPEG.
