Hi All:

I see I have finally found the right site for opinions of the best scanner for

home use to buy.

I want to digitize all of my decent 35mm slides and 4x6 glossy color prints. I

want a decent machine that can handle a couple thousand uses and which will run

with WinXP without major software problems. I would like the machine to be

under $200, although if convinced by the consensus here, I am willing to go up

to $300.

I realize I am not at the same level as anyone here, as I don't process images

professionally; however, I would really appreciate anyone's time in reply.

Thanks in advance,

-Ken J

From experience, I can only recommend that you buy the 4000 dpi Nikon Coolscan V ED film scanner [http://tinyurl.com/3c3sds] to obtain crisp optimum scans for your "decent" 35mm slides (and 35mm negatives) at a used price below $300.

For the 4x6 "glossy" colour prints, you can use any new sub $100 Epson Perfection 4800 dpi scanner for impressive results. The Epsons will also have a negative tray. Trust me. Scanned results with a flatbed scanner will NEVER equal that of a dedicated film scanner.
