I bought a refurbished Epson 4490 last Fall for scanning medium format film, as

well as Polaroids. So far, I've been happy with it, especially since I'm

primarily scanning for web-posting rather than printing.

However, I now seem to have hit a snag, as I'm growing more interested in

working in 6x12cm format (both pinhole and a Fotoman camera). When I bought the

4490, I (mistakenly, it seems) assumed that because the 120/220 carrier was

6x12cm, it would scan up to that size. Now that I'm using it, though, I've

found that it only gives the following options: 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, and 6x9.

Does anyone know if there's a way to override these options, so that it will

scan the entire 6x12 area as ONE image or, if I stick with this scanner, am I

stuck with having to scan-and-stitch for 6x12?

Thanks!

David,

I have had epson scanner but seldom used the epson software.

Give a look at vuescan trial version to see if it works for you,

I bought it some year ago and I found it useful,

I use an Epson scanner, but not the 4490, however, on the 700, in the user control panel, I draw a marque around the portion of the negative I wish to scan. I would hope that your unit has a Pro mode that allow to do this. Or look for an advanced mode with additional options for selection.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Turning off the thumbnails and using the marquee square does appear to do the trick (though scans seem to take a lot longer this way than via the auto-thumbnails, even for the same size scan). I probably should have been able to figure this all out, but the Epson manual that comes with scanner is absolutely useless (as far as I could find) and, worse, Epson's technical support was completely misleading. When I asked the same question I posted here, the tech support reply was just that, no, one could not scan the 6x12 area as one image. I'm really glad I did not take their word for it!

Thanks again!

Dave
