mike w
A while ago I posted "http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00O3mG" asking about upgrading the CPU on an old "Tamron 300mm 2.8 SP AF LD IF" so it will autofocus. I thought I would let you all know I just got it back from Tamron. The process took just over 3 weeks. Not only dose it now AF on my D-300 it will AF with my Kenko 1.5 tele extender and the 2 and 3x as well, although you cant stack them all at one time. I am very impressed with the work they've done, not only did they do the CPU upgrade for $350.00 they done a very through cleaning and replaced a broken screw on the lens hood. I believe he painted the darn thing, it had scratches and dings on when I sent it to them. Heck it looks like he even polished the leather lens cover! I can't wait to get out and use this thing and put it through it's paces, I believe it will be well worth the effort. Mikew
JDMvW
I was just curious, and so I looked at recent eBay prices. It looks like what you paid for the fix was quite reasonable considering what it goes for for a used one. And the new prices are even higher. It's good to know that Tamron did a nice job. jwhite3.0
Yeah, KEH has one of these in Tamron's in EX condition for $695 so if you get it chipped you'll be in the ballpark of $1050 for a 300mm f/2.8 which isn't too shabby.
